So You’ve Planned Your Visit – What Next?

Be prepared for your visit and ease your mind.

Transitioning a loved one into a senior care community can be a big adjustment for both residents and family members. For many, it’s easy to carve out time to visit but sometimes difficult to know what to do or what to bring. Being prepared for your visit can help ease your mind.

So you’ve planned your next visit, what now? Below is a short list of items, activities, and games that will help you plan for a visit and give you and your loved one something to look forward to!

Sign up for community activities

Our community takes pride in having numerous activities throughout each week to ensure that seniors are engaged and connected. These activities are an opportunity for you to connect with your loved one through a shared hobby or the learning of a new skill. A few examples of activities might be:

  • Group exercise class
  • Game Night
  • Trivia Games
  • Karaoke
  • & More!

Photos / Photo Albums

Your next visit is an opportunity to not only capture the moment but create memories with your loved ones. If you are yet to make a family portrait, your visit is the best time to do so, especially with the entire family.

Having a generational blend is perfect! You may consider bringing the grandchildren along on your next visit and welcome them into these moments as well. These pictures can serve as apartment decor or be added to a photo album, allowing your loved one to reminisce over memories. Alternatively, you may also consider bringing old photos/photo albums from home to spark storytelling and relive your family’s favorite memories.

Live Streaming

If your loved one is committed to religious practices, then you can livestream services or invite members of their religious organizations during the visit. This helps foster connection not just within the community but outside as well. Most seniors enjoy the satisfaction that comes from a worship session or a spiritual practice. It is sometimes helpful to engage in these activities on a group level as that promotes accountability among others.

Thankfully, a number of religious organizations have migrated to the internet space with livestreaming on media pages across the globe, providing an opportunity to pray, meditate or attend a service with your loved ones.

Card Games

Lastly, we always recommend a classic card game or board game. Bringing a deck of cards is a simple way to get everyone involved in one activity, but still being relaxed enough to let conversation flow naturally. There are common spaces with tables and room to gather with family and friends for a game of cards!

When searching for an assisted, living home for our father, we looked at several. It’s a very daunting task. This was actually the last place we looked at. To say we were impressed, would be an understatement. First impressions mean a lot, and we were picking up good vibes immediately, from the moment we stepped in to the home. It’s so beautiful and so welcoming, and very easy to navigate through. We were greeted by several employees. It was a no-brainer for us, this was the type of place we were hoping to find for dad. He absolutely loves it there, and we feel very confident in the care he’s receiving. Everyone has been so thoughtful, so helpful I feel like I’ve known them forever! Not that it would’ve made a difference, but not only was it the last place we looked at, and the most beautiful place we had visited, but it was also the least expensive. And they don’t cut corners on care. His room is absolutely perfect, the view is perfect as well. He truly does enjoyed being there. Which makes us feel less guilty about placing him. From the moment you walk in you are greeted by the friendless staff we’ve talked to thus far., Usually by a beautiful, happy go lucky young lady named Rachel. She is a gem. The caregivers go out of their way to greet you with a smile. Always eager to help. I would be remiss if I didn’t mention, Jessica , who has helped us tremendously along this journey. She has definitely been a blessing. The other residents appear to also be content. Dad has made many friends. There’s just so many others I want to mention … Jennifer… Bonnie…. Nevaeh ….. all of them! They’re all wonderful. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts…… Russ & Marcia Whitney

I was looking into assisted living for both my parents after my dad had been out at Burcham Hills doing his rehabilitation because it just wasn’t looking like he should come home, and this place was just beautiful! It had everything they needed and or wanted and was actually very affordable!
